The building was designed on behalf of the central administration of the AOK Berlin by the architect Albert Gottheiner (1878–1947) and opened in 1933 as an administration building. In the years after the Second World War, the building was used as a SED party university. The party university was an official state university with an entry in the university register of the GDR. In 2008, the architects Annette Axthelm and Henner Rolvien received the order for the redesign and conversion for high-quality living and formulate a contemporary architectural statement with the design of the METROPOL PARK called today. Historical and modern elements blend harmoniously into a new unity - a livable and lovable new home.
The multi-storey steel skeleton structure in the style of Expressionism is kept in dark, hard fire-typical red clinker bricks. The building ensemble is dominated by the elongated part of the building on Rungestrasse, a central building with a stately entrance portal and two rear wing buildings that flanked a large covered counter hall on the courtyard side. The western part of the building, located in the direction of Wassergasse, is a two-storey building, which was upgraded as part of the renovation work. The decorative pillars up to the fifth floor with six terracotta figures on the pillar templates as well as a plastic surface design of the clinker cladding are eye-catchers and at the same time an architectural loosening of the clinker main facade. The sculptures were done by Anton Lechtner.
The approx. 85sqm 3 room apartment is located in the street-side main building in a north-east orientation. The view sweeps over the Köllnischer Park with its stately trees, the Märkisches Museum to the television tower and the top of the red town hall. From every room in the apartment you can enjoy this magnificent view of Berlin's landmarks. The new double box windows manufactured according to the historical model ensure optimum daylight yield. The main living area is characterized by an open kitchen area where you can work with a kitchen island. The possible dining area connects the kitchen area with the living area, which is located generously in front of the windows. The two large bedrooms each go out from the living area. The master bedroom has an en suite bath. There is sufficient wall space in all rooms, so that even larger pieces of furniture can be stored well. A high-quality parquet flooring was laid in all rooms and creates a cozy, warm atmosphere. A small hallway forms the entrance area from which the second bathroom with shower can be entered.
The Metropol Park is located in a place full of calm and at the same time in the center of Berlin. In the immediate vicinity of the Spree, people live in the Metropol Park withdrawn enough to be able to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city without completely withdrawing from it. Whether the tourist center with Museum Island, Gendarmenmarkt, the City Palace and Unter den Linden, or the hip Kreuzberg with countless, trendy restaurants, bars and shops - the Metropol Park is located in the middle of this exciting living environment. The Märkisches Museum U2 stop is just a few steps away on foot. Relaxed living in the epicenter of one of the trendiest cities in the world.
